Unit map

Know what you are preparing for.

Keep the official learning material as your source of truth. Use this map to organise practice around the unit you are studying now.

FSREFRE1

Industry, Regulation and Key Parties

Build the regulatory and industry foundation before adding mortgage-specific detail.

FSREFRE2

Skills, Principles and Ethical Behaviours

Connect regulation with conduct, professional judgement and ethical behaviour.

MORTMRT1

Mortgage Law, Practice and Application

Work through the legal framework, application process and practical mortgage journey.

MORTMRT2

Mortgage Products and Post Completion

Compare products and review what happens after a mortgage completes.

SynopticASEW/ASSC

Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge

Bring earlier learning together and practise applying it to case-based scenarios.

Flexible study plan

Eight blocks you can fit around your timetable.

A block can take a few days or several weeks. Progress when you can explain the main ideas and apply them—not simply because a date has passed.

  1. 1

    Map the qualification

Read the current official specification, note all five units and record the assessment format for each one.

  2. 2

    Build the FSRE foundation

Study FRE1 first, then FRE2. After each topic, practise retrieval before checking your notes.

  3. 3

    Start mortgage practice

Move into MRT1 and connect each topic to the stages of a mortgage application.

  4. 4

    Complete the mortgage module

Study MRT2 and compare products, customer circumstances and post-completion considerations.

  5. 5

    Review weak areas

Use practice results to identify topics that need another pass through the official material.

  6. 6

    Prepare for the synoptic unit

Practise applying knowledge across a scenario instead of recalling facts in isolation.

  7. 7

    Add timed practice

Complete focused sessions under realistic time pressure, then review every incorrect or uncertain response.

  8. 8

    Make a readiness decision

Use several recent sessions, not one score, and compare your preparation with the provider’s current assessment guidance.

A repeatable study rhythm

Learn, retrieve, practise, review.

01

Learn

Work through the relevant official material and note the outcomes you are expected to understand.

02

Retrieve

Close the material and explain the topic in your own words before checking what you missed.

03

Practise

Use focused questions to apply the topic, then record incorrect and uncertain answers.

04

Review

Return to the source material, correct the misunderstanding and repeat later without the answer in view.

Readiness checklist

Look for consistent evidence—not one encouraging score.

Tick these only when they are true across more than one recent study session.

  • I can describe the purpose and main topics of the unit without relying on prompts.
  • I can apply the material to unfamiliar questions and scenarios.
  • I have reviewed every incorrect and uncertain practice answer.
  • My recent timed practice is consistent, not dependent on memorising one question set.
  • I have revisited weak topics in the current official learning material.
  • I have checked the qualification owner’s latest assessment information before making a booking decision.

Optional practice layer
